What the heck are you talking about?
Well, as a DER we are supposed to help applicants, our clients, to help navigate the waters of the FAA regulations and guidance materials. So we often have to address issues, gather data with and without the applicant's help to help support their projects. So we have to gather the infant documents, prepare documentation which relies on those infant documents, Component Maintenance Manuals, Airframe Maintenance Manuals, Service Bulletins and guidance materials to create an engineering substantiation package which gathers all the relevant facts and data in a cohesive manner to support a major repair, repair specification or even a technical position for a client to present to the FAA to help achieve compliance or certification of a product or even aircraft. In the case of repairs we develop the repairs, oversee the repairs, and help certify the repairs engineering data as a one time repair or multiple use repair which is more commonyl referred to as a Repair Specification. The latter being the completion of the certification project plus ongoing support - the grave.
