Alternate Means of Compliance

Usually when the FAA comes up with policies, procedures or guidelines that applicants or operators are supposed to follow there are fairly rigid requirements. However, the FAA realizes that there are also often different solutions that can be used to achieve the same end result. The FAAs overarching purpose is to keep aircraft and rotorcraft flying safely in the skies and without danger to the public. Alternate Means of Compliance is usually demonstrated through a Position Paper or other similar document to demonstrate that the applicants solution is as good as or better than that of the FAA. These are called AMOCs and they are very useful when available for use and the client has a compelling case for its use.
